The theme I chose to do for my portfolio this quarter is, nature. One of the reasons why I chose the theme nature is that there is a variety of things nature describes. Nature could be happy, depressing, outgoing, and many more. The connection between all of these poems, articles, and songs all has to deal with the nature surrounding and how they are slowly disappearing.
First, the poem “Nature” by Linda is about appreciating nature. For example in the poem one of the versus are “As I sit and ponder how Nature got it so right and we lost all sight.” The second poem “Nature’s Nature” by Chandra Thiagarajan is about how we should be taking care of the earth. It says how the earth is slowing  dyeing. I chose these poems because I wanted to bring attention to nature and how we should be taking care of it.
Next, I chose the song “Send it on” by the Disney channel stars. The reason why I chose this song is first, it talks about nature, and second, its about how to pass the word of saving the earth and nature around us and that we can make a change. This song suits the theme nature because it about how one by one we can make a change to helping and saving nature. We are slowly killing so many trees, habitats, and all types of open land, which then kills animals and gets more pollution in the air.
Last, the articles I chose are “Hitting the Great Outdoors” by Nicholas Kristof and “How to Lick a Slug” by Nicholas Kristof. I chose the article “Hitting the Great Outdoors” because this article states how kids and even adults need a little nature now and then. Mr. Kristof said “If we’re divorced from nature, then there’s simply no constituency for it.” And this is the message I want to share. The second article “How to Lick a Slug” is also about how people should have nature around them. In this article it talks about how “only 2 percent of American households now live on farms, compared with 40 percent in the 1900’s.”
All of these poems, articles, and this song connects to nature and how we should take better care of the earth. Nature surrounding us has so many different emotions. It could be happy, sad, scary, fun, etc. I liked this theme because I could go in any direction, which sort of describes me, I like to express myself freely and be outgoing. Also because I am always outdoors by going hiking, going to the beach, etc. All in all, all of these poems, articles, and songs, have to deal with the nature around us.
